Netball Weekend Preview - Round 13, 2026

Round 12 delivered another exciting weekend of BFNL A Grade netball, with several close contests and some impressive individual performances as the race towards finals continues to heat up.

North Ballarat continued their strong form with a 46–31 victory over Bacchus Marsh, while Lake Wendouree edged out Melton 66–60 in a high-scoring contest. Sebastopol claimed one of the matches of the round with a thrilling 38–36 win over Ballarat, Sunbury returned to the winner's list with a 53–39 victory over Redan, and Darley once again demonstrated why they remain the competition benchmark with a convincing 64–27 win over East Point.

With only six rounds remaining, every result becomes increasingly important as clubs battle for finals positions and build momentum towards September.

Bacchus Marsh

vs

Darley

SATURDAY JULY 18TH - 2.30PM @ MADDINGLEY PARK

Momentum: Darley

North Ballarat controlled much of the first half against Bacchus Marsh, with Brydi Hutchinson outstanding through WD, disrupting attacking play and creating turnover opportunities. Bacchus Marsh responded strongly after halftime, led by Eliza Moodie in defence, and fought hard to even the final quarter but were unable to reduce the margin enough.

Darley again produced four quarters of dominant netball against East Point. Olivia Cawthray was outstanding with 43 goals, while Montana Holmes continued to control the game through the midcourt. Their seamless attacking connection and ability to convert turnover ball remain the benchmark of the competition.

Key Match-Up

  • Bacchus Marsh's defensive pressure against Darley's attacking precision.

What to Watch

  • Can Bacchus Marsh slow Darley's ball movement?
  • Darley's transition speed through the midcourt.
  • Turnover conversion.

Prediction

Darley continue to set the benchmark of BFNL A Grade netball, with their ability to maintain pressure across all four quarters proving difficult for opponents to match. Their attacking combinations are becoming increasingly settled, while their defensive pressure across the court creates valuable scoring opportunities.

Bacchus Marsh have shown they can compete when their defensive intensity is high, and they will need to make every possession count against a Darley side that punishes even small mistakes. Eliza Moodie's influence through the court will be important as Bacchus Marsh look to slow Darley's attacking rhythm.

The challenge for Bacchus Marsh will be sustaining pressure for the full game. Darley's depth across every position and their ability to convert turnovers into goals should ultimately see them remain in control.

East Point

vs

North Ballarat

SATURDAY JULY 18TH - 2.30PM @ EASTERN OVAL

Momentum: North Ballarat

East Point started strongly against Darley with an impressive opening quarter before losing momentum as the game progressed. They'll be searching for greater consistency across four quarters against another top-four opponent.

North Ballarat were in control for much of their contest against Bacchus Marsh. Brydi Hutchinson was outstanding through WD, shutting down attacking options and setting the tone defensively. Their ability to control possession and dictate the tempo continues to make them one of the competition's strongest defensive units.

Key Match-Up

  • East Point's attacking unit against North Ballarat's relentless defensive pressure.

What to Watch

  • Can East Point sustain their early intensity?
  • North Ballarat's ability to force turnovers.
  • Midcourt transition speed.

Prediction

North Ballarat enters this contest as one of the competition's most consistent performers, built on disciplined ball movement, defensive pressure and the ability to control momentum. Their defensive unit continues to create opportunities by forcing opposition errors and turning them into attacking chances.

East Point have shown they can match the competition's strongest sides during periods of games, particularly when their attacking movement is sharp. Their challenge will be maintaining that intensity across the full four quarters against a North Ballarat side that rarely drops away.

The midfield battle will be critical, with East Point needing to create clean attacking opportunities while limiting North Ballarat's ability to generate turnover ball. North Ballarat's consistency and defensive depth should see them remain in control.

Melton

vs

Sunbury

SATURDAY JULY 18TH - 2.30PM @ MACPHERSON PARK

Momentum: Sunbury

Melton pushed Lake Wendouree all the way despite suffering a narrow six-goal loss. After missing the opening quarter, Payton Simeki made an immediate impact, finishing with an outstanding 38 goals from 39 attempts at 97% accuracy. Melton continue to develop their connections across the court and are becoming increasingly competitive against the league's top sides.

Sunbury celebrated a welcome return to the winner’s list following their victory over Redan. The inclusion of Amalani Fauonuku added strength across the court, while the shooting combination led by Caitlin Hill proved difficult to contain. Georgia Hellyer was outstanding at WA, dominating centre pass receives and providing consistent goal assists.

Key Match-Up

  • Payton Simeki vs Sunbury's defensive unit.

What to Watch

  • Can Melton maintain scoreboard pressure for four quarters?
  • Sunbury's speed through transition.
  • The battle through the midcourt.

Prediction

Sunbury enter with confidence after returning to the winner’s list, and their ability to create attacking opportunities from defensive pressure will be a key factor. Their speed through transition and variety in attack gives them multiple scoring options, but they will need to ensure they limit the influence of Payton Simeki, who has proven capable of keeping Melton in games through her accuracy and composure.

Melton have shown significant improvement and have demonstrated they can challenge the better sides when their defensive structures hold, and their ball movement is patient. If they can maintain their intensity from the opening quarter and reduce periods of inconsistency, they have the ability to make this a close contest.

Sunbury's experience, athleticism through the midcourt and improved defensive pressure should see them hold control in the final stages.

Redan

vs

Sebastopol

SATURDAY JULY 18TH - 2.30PM @ CITY OVAL

Momentum: Sebastopol

Redan took time to settle against Sunbury before producing a much-improved second half. Stacey Matthews again led from the front, creating numerous goal assists and driving the attack. Redan finished strongly to win the final quarter, providing positives heading into this week's clash.

Sebastopol secured an important win over Ballarat after drawing level at the final break before producing the stronger last quarter. Tahlia Watts controlled the centre channels throughout the game, while Alice Kain was outstanding in defence in a terrific battle with Dakota Blade.

Key Match-Up

  • Redan's attacking movement versus Sebastopol's defensive pressure.

What to Watch

  • Can Redan bring their second-half form for four quarters?
  • Sebastopol's ability to control the midcourt.
  • Defensive rebounds and transition.

Prediction

This contest shapes as another important test for both sides as they look to build momentum heading into the final stages of the season. Sebastopol enter with confidence after producing a strong finish against Ballarat, with their defensive pressure and ability to control the tempo becoming key strengths.

Redan showed encouraging signs last week, particularly after halftime, and their challenge will be bringing that intensity from the opening centre pass. Their attacking movement and ability to create opportunities for Stacey Matthews and their shooters will be crucial.

If Redan can maintain possession and reduce turnovers, they are capable of pushing Sebastopol. However, Sebastopol's recent form, defensive structure and ability to perform in pressure moments should see them secure another important win.

Lake Wendouree

vs

Ballarat

SATURDAY JULY 18TH - 2.30PM @ C.E BROWN RESERVE

Momentum: Lake Wendouree

Lake Wendouree overcame injury adversity after Sadie Cheeseman was sidelined, forcing several positional changes to the match. Ebony Porter was outstanding, combining brilliantly with Addison Funcke while also finishing with 38 goals. Rosie Todd stepped into Centre and rose to the challenge with an impressive performance.

Ballarat suffered a narrow two-goal defeat to Sebastopol after leading throughout much of the first half. Their defensive end of Eliza Burge continues to be a major strength, controlling space, applying relentless pressure and creating valuable rebound opportunities.

Key Match-Up

  • Lake Wendouree's attacking movement against Ballarat's defensive pressure.

What to Watch

  • Can Ballarat convert more of their turnover opportunities?
  • Lake Wendouree's ability to adapt through positional changes.
  • The battle inside both goal circles.

Prediction

This shapes as one of the matches of the round, with both teams possessing the ability to challenge through different areas of the court. Lake Wendouree showed excellent composure last week, adapting to positional changes and continuing to find attacking solutions despite disruption.

Ballarat's defensive unit remains one of their biggest strengths, with Eliza Burge capable of changing the momentum of a game through intercepts and rebound work. Their ability to create turnovers will be vital, but converting those opportunities into goals will determine whether they can stay with the Lakers.

Expect a tight contest where momentum swings could play a major role. Lake Wendouree's attacking depth and ability to find different scoring options should give them the edge late.

Darley remain the team to beat and face another important challenge against Bacchus Marsh, while North Ballarat will look to continue building momentum against East Point.

Lake Wendouree and Ballarat shapes as one of the games of the round, with Ballarat's defensive pressure meeting the Lakers' dynamic attacking line-up. Sunbury will aim to build on last week's win against an improving Melton outfit, while Redan and Sebastopol promises to be another closely fought contest.

As the finals race tightens, consistency across all four quarters will become increasingly important, with every win now critical in determining September positions.
